124 iPhones under the seat: the bus driver became the first suspect in the case of goods smuggling in Ukraine

At the Krakovets checkpoint, a bus driver from Germany was detained, who was transporting more than 120 iPhones hidden under the seats. This is the first case of commodity smuggling, which is now subject to criminal liability. Thus, the driver may become the first person involved in such a case.

This was reported by the press service of the State Border Service.

On Monday, July 1, a regular bus from Germany, driven by a 34-year-old Ukrainian citizen, arrived at the Krakovets checkpoint to enter Ukraine.

“Having operational information about the possible illegal movement of goods across the border, border guards of the Lvov detachment initiated an in-depth inspection of the bus,” the State Tax Service notes.

The border and customs team found Apple smartphones hidden from control in a niche in the floor of the cabin and under the passenger seat. In total, law enforcement officers received 124 pieces from caches. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Expensive gadgets were confiscated from the man by customs officers - the amount of valuation of the found devices will be determined by an expert examination. Border guards sent a notification to the BEB about the discovery of signs of a criminal offense under Art. 201-3 “Smuggling of goods” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Note that criminal liability for smuggling of goods comes from today.
