$1.7 million for senior positions at customs: NABU prevented corruption in the State Customs Service

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), together with the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), prevented an attempt by a group of individuals to organize corruption schemes through the appointment of “the right people” to senior positions in the territorial bodies of the State Customs Service.

According to an investigation conducted jointly with the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), the criminals offered $1 million for the position of head of Lviv customs. In addition, the heads of Volyn and Chernivtsi customs were estimated at 500 thousand dollars and 200 thousand US dollars, respectively.

“The group members also hoped that the leadership of the State Customs Service “would not notice” corruption schemes at these customs in exchange for half of the illegally obtained income,” the report says.

Thanks to NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors, it was possible to prevent the implementation of these criminal intentions.

Two participants in the crime, including its initiator, were informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 15, part 4 art. 27, part 4 art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
