The procedural leadership of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office reported suspicion to the 47-year-old caretaker of the Zhulyanskoye cemetery for extortion and receiving unlawful benefits for allocating a place for the burial of the deceased (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The pre-trial investigation established that in February 2024, the caretaker of the semi-closed Zhulyanskoye cemetery of the Ritual Service of the specialized utility enterprise “Specialized Plant of Municipal Services Enterprises” of the executive body of the Kiev City Council demanded and received from a local resident 3 thousand US dollars for the allocation and arrangement of a burial site.
A man came to the cemetery to find out how he could find a burial place. The caretaker said that the cemetery is semi-closed, meaning only family burials are allowed. But for 3 thousand US dollars he will allow sub-burial in a grave that no one cares for anymore, as if a relative of a man who was looking for a place is buried there. To do this, you just need to bring any death certificate of a person who died before 1999. This will subsequently be the basis for granting permission for burial in a semi-closed cemetery.
During the monitoring of the crime, law enforcement officers documented the transfer of 3 thousand US dollars to an employee of the Zhulyany cemetery.
Now he has been informed of suspicion and a preventive measure has been chosen in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of UAH 151,400.
The issue of bringing other involved persons to justice, in particular among the management staff of the SKP “Specialized Plant of Public Utilities Enterprises”, is being resolved.
