An agent of the Russian FSB received a life sentence for preparing a terrorist attack against the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Zaporozhye

Thanks to the evidence base of the Security Service of Ukraine, a resident who headed an FSB intelligence group in Zaporozhye received a life sentence.

His accomplice was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

In the spring of 2023, criminals planned a series of terrorist attacks against the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and SBU special forces performing combat missions on the southern front. To do this, agents identified temporary locations and routes of movement of Ukrainian military personnel in the region.

They transmitted the collected data to the FSB via instant messengers in the form of marks on Google maps, accompanied by a detailed description and photographs. Having received these coordinates, the invaders planned to launch targeted missile strikes.

In addition, the FSB intended to carry out the physical destruction of Ukrainian military personnel by installing explosive devices in areas where the Defense Forces were deployed. To prepare terrorist attacks, the Russian intelligence service provided its agents with financial assistance because of the bank details of the group’s resident.

SBU counterintelligence officers exposed the agents, documented their activities and detained them during a special operation in Zaporozhye in early May 2023.

As the investigation established, the resident of the agent network was a 52-year-old local resident. The occupiers drew attention to him because of his openly pro-Kremlin views, which he expressed publicly. At the end of December 2022, he was remotely recruited by a career FSB officer and given the task.

To carry them out, the resident recruited an accomplice who worked as a driver for the head of one of the regional administrations of Zaporozhye. Subsequently, five more residents of the region joined the group.

During the searches, the attackers were found to have automatic weapons, ammunition, live grenades, as well as mobile phones red-handed.

Based on the materials of the SBU, the court found the resident and his accomplice guilty under Part 2 of Art. 28 and part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which qualifies as high treason under martial law by prior conspiracy by a group of persons.

The investigation into other members of the enemy group continues. Complex measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Zaporozhye region under the procedural leadership of the regional prosecutor's office.
