The anti-corruption court removed the bracelet from ex-People's Deputy Maxim Mikitas

The High Anti-Corruption Court removed the electronic bracelet, but extended until August 25 the validity of the remaining obligations imposed on former MP Maxim Mykytas in the case of organizing his seizure of 307 million UAH. Ministry of Defense.

This decision was made by VAKS on June 25.

As you know, the anti-corruption court determined the preventive measure for Mikitas in the amount of UAH 908,400 bail. He was also entrusted with the following obligations: to arrive at every request; report changes in your place of residence and place of work; refrain from communicating with witnesses, as well as any other persons regarding the circumstances of the case; deposit your passport and wear an electronic bracelet.

The SAPO prosecutor asked to extend the obligations for another two months. However, the judge granted the request partially, removing Mikitas’s bracelet. The reason was an unstable connection with the bracelet due to constant power outages and the lack of a ban on leaving the place of residence.

“The petition to extend the period of validity of the obligations imposed on the suspect (Mikitas - ed.) is partially satisfied. Extend the suspect’s obligations for two months – until August 25, 2024,” the decision says.

Let us remind you that NABU and SAPO reported a new suspicion to ex-People’s Deputy Maxim Mikitas and other persons involved. According to investigators, in 2018 the Ministry of Defense entered into contracts with companies controlled by Mikitas for the construction of protected warehouses for storing missiles and ammunition of the Armed Forces of Ukraine until 2021 for a total amount of approximately 3 billion UAH. The ex-people's deputy planned to take possession of part of these funds.

However, he was prevented from doing this by legislative restrictions, which allowed the Ministry of Defense to pay an advance in the amount of only 30% of the annual volume of work. In order to implement the criminal intention, Mikitas and his assistant, by involving officials of senior and senior officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ensured the adoption of changes to the resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers, which allowed the transfer of an advance for construction in the amount of 80% of the total cost of contracts.

As a result, during November-December 2018, the Ministry of Defense transferred more than UAH 307 million to the accounts of a company controlled by the deputy. However, the construction of the facility, which should strengthen the country’s defense capability, was not actually started, and the allocated funds were transferred to the accounts of other controlled companies.
