The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) collected evidence of the criminal activities of Sergei Medvedchuk and Bohdan Kozak - brothers of former people's deputies Viktor Medvedchuk and Taras Kozak, suspected of high treason.
Now all four are outside Ukraine and are engaged in subversive activities in favor of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
The investigation established that Sergei Medvedchuk and Bogdan Kozak were involved in financial fraud that caused damage to Ukraine during 2017-2023. We are talking about millions of hryvnias transferred into the “shadow”, which is why the state budget lost more than 75 million hryvnias in taxes.
According to operational information, these funds were used to finance the Russian war against Ukraine.
For these frauds, the defendants involved a Lviv company for the production of construction materials, which they controlled as beneficial owners. Under their leadership, the top management of the enterprise did not take into account part of the products and illegally sold them to third parties.
Thus, participants in the scheme evaded paying taxes on the products they sold. The director and accountant of the company entered inaccurate data into the financial reporting documentation.
A forensic economic examination initiated by the SBU confirmed the facts of damage to the state amounting to millions of hryvnias and the misappropriation of these funds by the defendants.
Based on the collected evidence, Sergei Medvedchuk and Bogdan Kozak were declared in absentia of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (evasion of taxes, fees, mandatory payments).
The actions of their accomplices - the director and accountant of the company remaining in Ukraine - are additionally qualified under Part 2 of Art. 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (official forgery).
The investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice. The perpetrators face imprisonment.
Complex measures were carried out by employees of the SBU Department in the Lviv region together with investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation under the procedural leadership of the regional prosecutor's office.
