In Ukraine, the number of higher education teachers exceeds the need. This information was provided by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mikhail Vinnitsky.
He noted in an interview with Progressive that “the budget is not rubber.” According to the official, an increase in teachers' salaries is possible only if the network is modernized.
“I understand that this sounds very unpopular, but today we have a lot of teachers. And when we talk about increasing teachers’ pay, we must understand that the budget is not flexible and today an increase in teachers’ salaries or wages is only possible if the network is modernized,” said the Deputy Minister of Education.
He added that over the past year the number of applicants has almost halved.
“I want to point out that 15 years ago we had 630 thousand school graduates every year. Last year there were 360 thousand. Demographics show that we have a decline in the number of applicants by almost half,” Vinnitsky said.
He emphasized that during this time the number of higher education institutions and the number of teachers has not changed, compared with such a reduction in the number of applicants.
