The former official was banned from leaving Serbia.
The former head of the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the Security Service of Ukraine, Andrei Naumov, who was sentenced to a year in prison , has been released. The ex-general was released from a Serbian prison in early December.
writes about this with reference to information from the High Court of Nis. It is noted that due to the consideration of the appeal against the verdict, Naumov’s documents were confiscated and he was forbidden to leave the country.
The court was told that the former Ukrainian official is not yet allowed to leave the country and location until the appeal process is completed. In turn, Naumov’s lawyers filed a complaint against the decision to ban him from leaving Serbia, arguing that the client’s life was threatened, but the court did not satisfy it.
“It is worth noting that the use of such a measure (ban on leaving Serbia - ed.) is unnecessary. Especially considering that he has already served his full sentence,” said Naumov’s lawyer Alexander Ovchinnikov.
According to him, as part of the consideration of the extradition case, the court established the existence of a real threat to Naumov’s life. The lawyer noted that the ex-general himself spoke about the dangers associated with staying in Serbia.
“There are contradictions in the position of the same court, as well as in actions aimed at isolating Andrei Naumov. Our team documents all violations in this process for subsequent appeal to international authorities,” the lawyer said.
The Serbian court announced the decision in Naumov’s case on money laundering in September 2023. By that time, he had almost served his one-year sentence. Subsequently, both the defense and the prosecution filed appeals against this decision. Their consideration is ongoing.
Let us remind you that Andrei Naumov fled from Ukraine in June 2022, and on July 7 he was detained while trying to get from Serbia to North Macedonia. At the same time, Serbia refused to extradite him to Ukraine .
