In the spotlight

Darwin vs Energoatom

The Ministry of Energy has reported on the pouring of concrete foundations for additional reactor units at the Khmelnytsky NPP.

Then there are two options for the development of events. Either they will be completed in 10 years (which is less likely), or never (because the Russians will conquer/kill us and will not allow any Westinghouses in the Ukrainian SSR). In both options, the taxpayers' funds of (for now) independent Ukraine are definitely being used in the worst possible way.

The Internet annually awards a comic Darwin Award. They consider cases of death under the most idiotic circumstances. Grateful humanity celebrates its worst sons for depriving the human gene pool of their “dumb” genes, increasing the chances of survival for the rest. Ukraine, of course, should receive this low-prestige award for the most stupid management decisions in the field of energy policy.

You can hate me as much as you like, but we will deservedly lose in this war, stupidity never leads to victory. Society stood on its hind legs a year ago regarding the priority of expenses, when in Kyiv old paving stones were transferred to the street for little money. A bunch of opinion leaders wrote about their outrage. But only a few wrote something when Ukraine signed an agreement to build 20!!! Fuck nuclear reactors that no one needs in the current situation. By the way, the figure of 20 has not been fully disclosed

I understand that 19 reactors are somehow ugly and frivolous... We need to round up! But why not 200?! The chances of building both 20 and 200 are the same. But it sounds like a Song!

Okay, I'm not a clown, and I don't find it funny at all.

It’s not funny that right now Ukraine is unloading (for a fee) the excess energy of solar stations during the day, instead of stimulating the development of BESS storage devices.

It's not funny that right now in the evenings we are forced to ask for emergency assistance (expensive imports) from neighboring countries, instead of imposing tariffs on our own gas piston plants.

It’s not funny that society reacts violently to corruption of several thousand hryvnias in the purchase of drums and other rubbish for civil defense storage facilities. But this same society is silent (or maybe even proud) regarding future expenditures of hundreds of billions of hryvnia on reactors without proper examination and public discussion.

It’s not funny that concrete should be poured into bunkers in the Donetsk region and Zaporozhye, and not into foundations in the Khmelnitsky region.

It’s not funny, because a couple more attacks by the Russians on pumped storage stations and metallurgical plants operating around the clock - and the Ukrenergo dispatcher will give the command at night to unload the existing ones!!! nuclear power plant units, while we are pouring the foundations of new ones.

It’s not funny, because the thieving and frankly unlucky head of NNEGC Energoatom Kotin is running away from Radio Liberty journalists because he cannot explain where the new private house came from. And then he immediately goes with a show-off in a military uniform to promote himself in the Khmelnytsky region.

It’s not funny because foreign energy workers, investors and diplomats are pointing fingers at their heads. How is it possible to build concentrated generation rather than distributed generation during weekly missile attacks?!

I can write a dozen more of these “not funny” things, but it makes no sense to bore the patriotic and not so patriotic public with these “everything is lost” articles. The biggest misfortune at the front is when the commander is an idiot, but failure to follow orders is treason.

I read today that the state plans to purchase home mini solar power plants for the population. This is a bad investment, better batteries and gas generators. But the best investment is to remove the looters from the Ministry of Energy and the regulator NKREKP and privatize (distribute for free to soldiers and families of the dead) state-owned Energoatom at Ukrhydroenergo. Centrenergo and coal mines may no longer be privatized. It's now a pile of destroyed rubbish. The main thing is that no generation remains state-owned, because our state has been ruined.

I sit and think. What's better? Register a petition on the website of the President of Ukraine to ban the completion of nuclear power plant units until the end of hostilities? Or, just for fun, register the Ministry of Energy for the Darwin Award on the Internet?

We won’t be able to win either way, but at least we’ll have one last laugh...
