The DBI has completed an investigation into the people's deputy who shot and killed an 18-year-old girl in the Zhytomyr region

The State Bureau of Investigation has completed investigative actions in the case of an accident on the Kyiv-Chop highway in the village of Berezovka, Zhytomyr region, which occurred on November 3, 2023. A car driven by MP Andrei Nikolaenko hit and killed an 18-year-old girl.

The SBI press service announced the completion of the investigation. Based on its results, it was established that the driver, contrary to traffic regulations, was moving from the capital to Lviv in excess of the permitted speed.

“In particular, cameras on the Kyiv-Chop highway recorded an excess of the permissible speed from 40 to 50 km/h, including one of the cameras recorded such an excess within the settlement where the tragedy occurred. This was confirmed by phototechnical examination,” the State Bureau of Investigation noted.

Investigators stated that if the driver had complied with the traffic rules regarding driving at a permissible speed of no more than 110 km/h, and had also braked in a timely manner, the victim would have managed to leave the roadway.

In addition, it turned out that the culprit of the accident was systematically brought to administrative responsibility by the patrol police for speeding. During 2022-2023 alone, 22 decisions were made against him to bring him to administrative responsibility under Part 1 of Art. 122 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Violations.

Currently, Nikolaenko is suspected of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces imprisonment for up to 8 years.
