Department in the Ministry of Defense will be disbanded due to the purchase of expired food

The Ministry of Defense announced the confiscation of low-quality dry rations and the liquidation of the unit responsible for their purchase.

On December 13, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that it was withdrawing part of the dry rations purchased by the Department of Resource Procurement in 2022 without quality control. Currently, it is in the process of disbanding, and the manager who concluded the contracts for the supply of dry rations appears in criminal proceedings.

This is discussed in the telegram channel of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Currently, part of the dry rations purchased in 2022 is stored in the warehouses of the Armed Forces.

“In some of the sets, the packaging with jam was damaged, despite the fact that the product’s expiration date has not yet expired. Kits are prohibited for distribution. In the near future, the Logistics Forces Command will receive a new batch of dry rations from the Ministry of Defense,” the message says.

The Ministry of Defense says that in 2022, such damaged kits were purchased by the Department of Resource Procurement without quality control. It is currently in the process of liquidation.

“The responsibility of the Department of Resource Supply included all procurement decisions of the ministry: determining the quantity, cost and procurement procedures. This created corruption risks,” the ministry notes.

Thus, in order to avoid such risks in the future, the functions of the department were distributed among various divisions: the Department of Procurement Policy, the Defense Procurement Agency (SE “State Logistics Operator”) and the Planning Department.

It is worth adding that the manager who signed contracts for the supply of dry rations is now involved in criminal proceedings, including on other charges.

Let us recall that Anton Baidrakov, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was sentenced in Russia to 18 years behind bars. He was accused of “seizing power in the DPR and murdering a resident of Mariupol” on March 27, 2022.
