The document did not cause a heated discussion in parliament - other topics are now buzzing there, but everything is ahead. Firstly, there is a lot of discussion on offer. Secondly, money from the state budget should be allocated for these dates. And two years in advance.
The stated goal of the project is the consolidation and “ formation of the historical consciousness of the Ukrainian people, the preservation of national memory and the proper celebration and honoring of memorable dates and anniversaries .
The co-authors explain why they decided to decide on dates two years in advance: too many projects are introduced, often several months before the expected holiday, so no one can really prepare.
And there is something to prepare for, because if a memorable date is designated for celebration at the state level, then local authorities or institutions are obliged to hold appropriate events. It is important that we are talking about dates that do not require days off (laws are passed on such dates).
In order to mark a particular date, the following steps are assumed:
- The Cabinet of Ministers creates an organizing committee, which draws up an action plan and also determines sources of funding.
- The Ministry of Education and Science is recommended to ensure that all educational institutions conduct thematic lessons, educational hours, round tables, scientific and practical conferences, and also include topics related to dates in the competition of the Small Academy of Sciences.
- Goskomteleradio, accordingly, will create a thematic television and radio product, as well as cover events.
- “Ukrposhta” publishes commemorative stamps and envelopes.
For the first time - round dates of the war
There are a lot of memorable dates and anniversaries; they are listed in two appendices to the draft resolution.
, round dates associated with the armed aggression of the Russian Federation appear
In particular, this is the decade since the beginning of the Russian armed invasion of Ukraine and the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war (February 20).
Another decade (separately) - the beginning of the armed resistance of the security and defense forces of Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian volunteer formations, to Russian and pro-Russian armed formations (April).
And the third decade stretches from June to August - the liberation of the cities of Eastern Ukraine from Russian occupation during the ATO (Liman - June 4; Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkovka and Konstantinovka - July 5; Bakhmut - July 6; Toretsk - July 21; Avdeevka - 30 July; Krasnogorovka - August 1; Marinka - August 5).
In addition, the tenth anniversary of the end of the battles for Donetsk airport (Memorial Day - January 20, 2025) and the anniversary of the Ilovaisk tragedy (Memorial Day - August 29, 2024).
Glory to heroes
It is logical that at the state level, deputies propose to honor those who fought for Ukraine during the war. Thus, August 30 is indicated as the 40th anniversary of the birth of serviceman Taras Karpyuk, who died in 2022. It is not indicated in the list, but there is information on the Internet that Taras Karpyuk died on December 26, 2022 in the Bryansk region (RF) as part of a Ukrainian DRG that fell on mines. In addition to him, several other twin cities became victims of Russian mines.
On March 8, parliamentarians consider it necessary to honor the birthday of military pilot and participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war Alexander Korpan . He died on March 2, 2022 over Starokonstantinov, and was posthumously awarded the title “Hero of Ukraine” and the Order of the “Golden Star”.
August 20 as the birthday of Hero of Ukraine and participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war Artem Amelin, a national guardsman and participant in fierce battles near Trekhizbenka. Artem Amelin, under enemy fire, managed to knock out an enemy tank with a semi-serviceable mortar, and then knock out several more tanks and provide cover for the retreat of his unit’s fighters. Surprisingly, wounded many times, he held out until the hospital, where he died.
In memory of the Heavenly Hundred
Following the heroes of the war are the heroes of the Maidan. Deputies want to celebrate the birthday of the Hero of the Heavenly Hundred, Alexander Balyuk, (March 19). Continuing the connection of events and generations, on February 16 - a prisoner of the Russian regime during the Russian-Ukrainian war, Igor Kozlovsky. August 22 is indicated as the date of birth of the Hero of the Heavenly Hundred, Vladimir Melnichuk .
Moreover, the Second World War is not ignored. For example, February 25 is indicated in the draft resolution as the birthday (110 years) of Yevgeny Bereznyak . This is what is modestly said about the intelligence officer who became the prototype of the hero of the Soviet film “Major Whirlwind” and who saved Krakow from destruction by fascist troops. He lived to be 100 years old and died in 2013 in Kyiv.
Politicians and the blessed
If the draft resolution is adopted, for the first time in Ukraine there will be a celebration of the birthday of the first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk (January 10). In 2024 he would have turned 90 years old.
On September 2, it was proposed to remember the people's deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the first convocation, literary critic and professor of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy Vladimir Panchenko . In March ( 17th) , it is quite possible that in Ukrainian educational institutions and beyond they will remember the President of Carpathian Ukraine Augustin Voloshin. Carpathian Ukraine as an independent state existed for exactly one day, before that (1938-1939) it was an autonomy within the Czech Republic.
April 27, 2024, deputies consider it necessary to honor the memory of the author of the draft Constitution of the UPR, Oton Eichelman .
On July 29, it is proposed to remember the birthday of the commander of the Ukrainian peacekeeping contingent in the Muslim enclave of Zepa during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nikolai Verkhoglyad . He achieved the evacuation of civilians from Zepa, thanks to which they survived, while the inhabitants of Srebrenica, which was guarded by the Dutch contingent, were not evacuated. Later, what happened in this locality will thunder bloodily throughout the world as the “massacre in Srebrenica.” Verkhoglyad died in 2021 in Kyiv from Covid.
From prince to feminist
The list of politicians that deputies propose to remember at the state level goes on. There is, for example, 1000 years from the date of birth of Izyaslav, the son of Prince Yaroslav the Wise.
But others are also interesting - religious figures and those who would be called “blessed” in the good sense of the word. For example, bandura players. June 17 may become a memorable date for bandura player and folklore collector Fedor Zharko, who was repressed during Soviet times and exiled to Siberia. Or January 1 - the birthday of bandura player and kobzar Evgeniy Adamtsevich , author of the “Zaporozhye March”.
Among religious figures, Ivan Mazepa's mother Marina . Having become a nun (under the name Mary Magdalene), she was the abbess of two women's monasteries (Kievo-Pechersk Ascension and Glukhovsky Assumption), a philanthropist and the founder of applied art (she developed embroidery). In 2024 it will be 400 years since her birth. In contrast, on July 27 it is proposed to honor the birthday of the entrepreneur and participant in the feminist movement Klimentina Avdikovich . She became a businesswoman not because of a good life: after the death of her husband, she was left without money and took a risk by founding the Fortuna sweets factory, by the way, one of the first factories in western Ukraine. She expanded the business together with Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytsky. This factory still exists and is called “Svitoch”.
2024 marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of the chief spiritual rabbi of Kiev, Nukhim Vaisblat, whom deputies also propose to remember. As well as ( January 11 ) Elena Viter (Joseph), abbess (of Catholic monasteries) and righteousness of the nations of the world (for the salvation of Jews during the Holocaust).
Birthday of the joint stock company
Judging by the lists of memorable dates, the co-authors tried to squeeze into them the entire Ukrainian history, rich in events and prominent personalities. It also comes to incidents. For example, 1000 years since the creation of the Principality of Chernigov or 575 years since the creation of the Crimean Khanate. By the way, the Kyiv princes did not always have warm relations with the Chernigov principality, and even more so with the Crimean Khanate. The Tatar raids on Ukrainian territories were so bloody that they had to seek support from the rulers of neighboring states.
True, thanks to one of these forays into the political horizon of the Ottoman Empire, the star of Roksolana rose, as indicated in the list - a philanthropist whose birthday (520 years) was proposed to be celebrated at the state level. Another reminder of Kievan Rus in the list of memorable dates is 970 years since the birth of Nestor the Chronicler (in 2025). By the way, in 2025, Bohdan Khmelnitsky ( 430 years since his birth), indicated as the creator of the Ukrainian state, will not be forgotten.
The list also includes the “birthday” of the joint-stock company. In 2024, it will be 150 years since the creation of JSC “Elvorti ”, which still operates in the city of Kropyvnytskyi. The company, which produces agricultural machinery, was founded by English brothers. It began with the repair of equipment, but by 1913 it became the largest enterprise in the Russian Empire.
