To receive official clarification on increasing border control, the Ombudsman contacted the State Tax Service

There have been huge traffic jams at the borders since December 30-31. Border guards refuse entry to disabled people of group III and fathers with large families.

Border guards are intensively checking Ukrainians wishing to leave the country. State Tax Service officials were formally asked to provide the legal basis for such measures.

This was reported by Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets on Telegram.

The Ombudsman recalled that on December 31, there were huge queues at checkpoints to leave the country. The reason is increased control of citizens.

Lubinets said that the media had received information about enhanced document checks for people with disabilities, parents of large families, and those traveling using the “Path” system.

Border guards also require military registration documents with a record of deferment from mobilization.

The State Tax Service explains such measures by the large number of cases of document falsification.

“To sort out the situation, this morning I sent an urgent letter to the State Border Service of Ukraine with a request to provide information about the documents that State Tax Service employees require from citizens crossing the state border, as well as the legal basis for such a requirement,” Lubinets noted.

According to him, no one should be forced to do anything that is not provided for by law.

Let us remind you that men who illegally left the territory of Ukraine after February 24 may face up to 10 years in prison.
