The ex-head of the Shanghai prosecutor's office received a prison sentence for corruption

Zhang Bencai, former chief prosecutor of the Shanghai People's Procuratorate, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for bribery. The verdict was handed down by the People's Court of Xiamen City in Fujian Province (East China).

This was reported by the Xinhua News Agency.

As it turned out, from 2005 to 2020, Zhang Bencai, holding various positions, abused his official position in favor of third parties, helping them in the development of land, business transactions, transfers to other jobs and promotions, for which he received from them money and material assets totaling over 48.32 million yuan (about 6.8 million dollars).

The court ruled that Zhang Bencai will also be fined 4 million yuan, and his illegal income will be seized and transferred to the state treasury.
