Ex-People's Deputy Polyakov agreed to an agreement with the investigation

HACC approved a plea agreement against former MP Maxim Polyakov in the case of abuse of power.

As a people's deputy from the Popular Front faction, Polyakov was provided with housing in the city of Kyiv, actually living in his own apartment.

But from February 1, 2018 to July 30, 2019, Polyakov was paid for a hotel room at the Kyiv Hotel at the expense of the state budget. Only when the abuses became known did Polyakov submit a statement that he would stop renting the hotel room. The state spent 367 thousand hryvnia on a hotel for the people’s deputy.

The case went to trial back in 2020. Polyakov initially did not admit guilt. 32 court hearings took place and 22 witnesses were questioned. The total volume of court case materials is 31 volumes.

On August 29, 2023, the plea agreement was entered into the court. Then it took about another six months to agree on the terms of this agreement, and changes were made to the text of the agreement.

Polyakov returned the funds spent on renting the hotel room and transferred 1 million hryvnia to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He was sentenced to 3 years of suspended imprisonment with a fine of 17 thousand hryvnia. He will not serve a prison sentence if he does not commit a new crime during the 3 years of probation and fulfills the assigned duties. Polyakov must periodically appear to register with the authorized probation agency, inform about changes in place of residence, work or study, and cannot travel abroad without permission during the probationary period.

Let us remind you that Polyakov, together with ex-People's Deputy Borislav Rosenblatt, are also accused in the so-called “amber” case of parliamentary corruption. There is still no verdict in this case.
