A former SBU investigator was sentenced to 9 years in prison for a bribe of $80 thousand.

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court sentenced the former senior investigator for particularly important cases of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region, Sergei Glivinsky, to nine years in prison.

It was proven that he received a bribe of 80 thousand dollars for the release from custody of a foreigner suspected of drug smuggling.

“On March 20, 2024, a panel of judges of the HAKS announced a verdict in which a former investigator in the internal affairs department of the investigative department of the SBU Directorate in the Odessa region (hereinafter referred to as the SBU Directorate) was found guilty of demanding and receiving from a citizen an unlawful benefit in the amount of 80 thousand US dollars for investigative actions, influencing the mitigation of the preventive measure, the abolition of the seizure of property and bank accounts of the foreigner,” the SAPO reports.

A corresponding statement was also made by the Anti-Corruption Center. According to them, we are talking about Sergei Glivinsky, who was convicted with confiscation of all property, and was also deprived of the special rank of senior lieutenant of justice.

This is the case of David Joseph Ault, who is suspected in Ukraine of drug smuggling from China. His case was investigated by a former SBU official.

The CPC also reported that during the investigation of criminal proceedings on suspicion of US citizen David Joseph Ault, Gliwinsky demanded and received from the latter 80 thousand US dollars with the assistance of mitigating the preventive measure, canceling the seizure of the property and bank accounts of the foreigner.

“If the verdict stands on appeal, then the investigator, after serving his sentence, will not be able to hold positions in the SBU and law enforcement agencies for a period of three years,” the CPC noted.
