The attacker was supposed to install homemade remote control explosive devices under the cars of TCC representatives
Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented a series of terrorist attacks by the Russian FSB against military personnel of the Defense Forces in front-line Zaporozhye. As a result of a special operation, a Russian agent who was preparing to blow up the cars of employees of local military registration and enlistment offices was detained. The SBU reports this.
According to the investigation, on the instructions of the FSB, the person involved was to identify the vehicles of TCC representatives, and then install homemade remote-controlled explosive devices under them.
“To identify potential targets, the agent monitored parking lots near military registration and enlistment offices daily. In the future, he was supposed to receive detailed instructions from his Russian supervisor about the time and methods of carrying out terrorist attacks using explosives. Thanks to the prompt response of the SBU, the enemy’s plan was thwarted. The Russian agent was detained while he was conducting additional reconnaissance near a Defense Forces facility,” the report says.
As law enforcement officers note, a mobile phone containing evidence of criminal activity was confiscated from a Russian agent. In addition, the SBU established that the defendant also spied on transformer substations in Zaporozhye.
According to the investigation, the agent turned out to be a security guard at a local energy company, whom the FSB recruited remotely in April of this year. The man came to the attention of the Russian Federation through his daughter, who lives in Moscow and collaborates with the Russian intelligence service.
Now Security Service investigators have informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The attacker is in custody. He faces life imprisonment.
