Hackers “hacked” a Moscow Internet provider serving Russian government agencies

As a result of the successful actions of unknown cyber volunteers in Russia, a large-scale disruption occurred in the work of the Internet provider Akado-Telecom. This company provides Internet to a number of Russian government agencies.

This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The GUR message states that Akado-Telecom provides services to a number of Russian government agencies, in particular the Putin administration, the FSB, the FSO, local governments in Moscow and other regions, Sberbank and other facilities.

The department reports that on January 21 and 22, Russian users began to complain en masse about the lack of Internet and the inability to contact the Akado support service.

“As a result of the problems that have arisen both in Moscow, where the provider’s headquarters is located, and in a number of regions of Russia, the activities of government departments of the aggressor have become significantly more complicated or impossible,” the GUR notes.

The exact scale of damage to Russia is being clarified.

Hacker attacks on Russian infrastructure

This is not the first time that hackers have caused damage to Internet providers and state-owned enterprises of the aggressor country.

At the end of November 2023, it was reported that a group of hackers called Blackjack, possibly associated with the Security Service of Ukraine, successfully hacked the website of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation. They unloaded from there a lot of secret information that related to the temporarily occupied regions in the Kharkov and Zaporozhye regions, as well as their “leadership”.

And in December 2023, it became known that Blackjack had carried out a successful cyber operation aimed at the IT infrastructure of Rosvodokanal. In January 2024, hackers hacked the infrastructure of the Moscow Internet provider M9com and caused damage to its servers. A few days later, a Russian state-owned enterprise that carries out all construction contracts for the Ministry of War of the aggressor state came under a cyber attack.
