If you open the website of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, the first thing you will see is the slogan “Defuse and prevent.” However, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more and more suspicions, reasons and evidence are emerging that the same NABU can “neutralize” image risks for the authorities and prevent fair punishment of its influential representatives.
Top officials are repeatedly dismissed before suspicion is announced, and some even manage to get away with it and from the operational investigation (ORD), ruining the painstaking work of detectives.
As a result, the “cleansing of power from corruption for the sake of building and developing a successful society and an effective state” promised on the same NABU website does not always happen. But even less often such cases become known to society. There are even fewer cases when the director of NABU personally asked not to conduct searches of an official - one.
Recently, the whole country watched a public investigation into “leaks” from NABU. This is a story about coincidences—incredible coincidences that allow one influential official to avoid the “radar” of the anti-corruption bureau. And at the same time, the same official has the opportunity to secretly visit the leadership of this institution.
