Curfew on New Year's Eve: what restrictions will there be in the regions

The curfew will not be lifted, but its duration will vary depending on the security situation in each region.

Due to the war, holidays in Ukraine will again be held with restrictions. There are no exceptions even on New Year's Eve.

Will the timing of restrictions in Kyiv change?

On the eve of the New Year holidays, the Kyiv City State Administration reported that there are no plans to reduce or cancel the curfew in the capital. The restrictions will apply on all holidays, as previously established.

That is, on New Year's Eve from December 31 to January 1, it will be prohibited to be on the street from midnight to 5 am.

In addition, mass events, fairs and large-scale celebrations for Christmas and New Year are prohibited in Kyiv.

Let us note that last year the curfew on December 31 was shortened by an hour, but then its total duration was longer. On normal days, restrictions on movement for Kiev residents were in effect from 22:00, and on New Year’s Day - from 23:00.

Curfew by regions of Ukraine

As of December 19, 2023, local military administrations have not made any announcements to extend or shorten holiday curfews.

Therefore, unless there are additional announcements on New Year's Eve, the movement ban will remain in effect according to established schedules by region.

However, given the military situation and the situation, in a number of regions and districts the duration of the curfew differs:

• Vinnytsia region: 00:00 – 05:00
• Lutsk and Volyn region: 00:00 – 05:00
• Dnepropetrovsk region: 00:00 – 05:00 (Nikopol district: 23:00 – 04:00; Sinelnikovsky district: 22:00 – 05:00)
• Donetsk region: 21:00 – 05:00
• Zhytomyr region: 00:00 – 05:00
• Zaporozhye region: 23:00 – 05:00 (in the controlled territory of Vasilyevsky and Pologovsky districts - from 21:00 to 5:00)
• Ivano-Frankivsk region: 00:00 – 05:00
• Kyiv region: 00:00 – 05:00
• Kropyvnytskyi and Kirovograd region: 23:00 – 05:00
• Lugansk region: 21:00 – 05:00
• Lviv region: 00:00 – 05:00
• Nikolaev region: 00:00 – 05:00 (Ochakovsk, Black Sea and Kutsurubskaya OTG: 23:00 – 05:00)
• Odessa region: 00:00 – 05:00
• Poltava region: 00:00 – 04:00
• Rivne region: 00:00 – 05:00
• Sumy region: 23:00 – 04:00

The only region where there is no curfew in Ukraine remains Transcarpathia with the regional center of Uzhgorod.

Prohibitions during curfew

For security reasons, the following restrictions apply to citizens and businesses during the curfew:

• be on the street and in public places;
• travel on any type of transport without a pass;
• The operation of shops and shopping centers, cafes and restaurants, and other establishments and institutions, except for critical infrastructure, is prohibited.

Leaving the house at night is only allowed during an air raid in order to get to the nearest shelter.

Special passes for movement during curfew are issued by military administrations of localities for employees of security and defense sector units, critical infrastructure and government bodies.

What threatens violators?

If a person is outside during curfew, he may be detained by a patrol to check and clarify the circumstances. If you have identification, the violator will be given a warning and released.

However, if there are no documents, the police have the right to detain the citizen and take him to the department for identification.
