The deputy director of the KP “Directorate for the Construction of Road Transport Facilities in Kyiv” signed documents with an inflated cost for the construction of the Podolsky Bridge, which led to damage to the city budget in the amount of more than UAH 24 million.
The construction of the Podolsky Bridge, which began in December 2003, was intended to relieve congestion on the Northern Bridge and connect the section with Troyeshchyna, as well as provide the fourth branch of the Kyiv metro.
Against the background of thefts related to the construction of the bridge, several criminal cases have already been launched. In particular, in 2021, law enforcement agencies reported the possible theft of about 3 billion hryvnia during the construction of the overpass.
During the construction of the bridge itself, problems arose with meeting deadlines, which led to the dismissal of Deputy Mayor Alexander Gusteleev.
The latest revelation caused millions in damage to the Kyiv budget as a result of inflated operating costs for construction equipment, which greatly shocked Ukrainians.
“Investigators informed the official about suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – official negligence. Let us remind you that in September of this year, the defendant was already served with suspicion under the same article - then, due to unreasonably inflated prices for sand, construction “rose” by 6.5 million hryvnia,” the post reports.
The deputy director of the Communist Party has been charged with official negligence for the second time in a year, sanctioned by an article providing for imprisonment from two to five years.
