Space awards, fortune and connections with the “Korostyshev gang”: why doesn’t the leadership of the Zhitomir region GUNP fire the odious “cops”?

Despite publications and journalistic investigations regarding possible corrupt actions of the leadership of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zhytomyr region and local law enforcement officers, there were no personnel changes or reactions from supervisory authorities.

Malin police chief Sergei Danilyuk, who has repeatedly come to the attention of StopCor, still remains in office and continues to mind his own business. And this despite all the notorious scandals involving him.

In particular, we are talking about driving while intoxicated in 2016, an attack on a representative of the territorial defense forces Ivan Tymoshchuk, in which Danilyuk was allegedly involved. In addition, the law enforcement officer’s declaration also raised questions among journalists. According to which the head of the police department uses a 2016 BMW X5.

The average cost of such a car on specialized sites is about 33 thousand dollars. But the vehicle is registered not to Danilyuk himself, but to his mother. In addition, according to the declaration, his wife holds 50 thousand dollars in cash, that is, almost 2 million hryvnia.

Many Ukrainian media covered the news about the arrest of a gang from Korostyshev, involved in the rape of girls and the murder of an ATO participant. But for some reason, no one mentioned the possible connections of the Korostyshev police chief Vadim Zhikevich and his deputy Alexander Gumenyuk, who may be closely connected with the criminal activities of the defendants in the “Korostyshev gang” case.

In addition, StopCor learned from reliable insider sources that there had allegedly already been an instruction from the management of the NPU about their dismissal from the authorities. But, despite this, the direct leaders of Zhikevich and Gumenyuk continue to “cover for” them. Moreover, Zhikevich was awarded the rank of “police colonel” ahead of schedule and appointed chief of police in the city of Ovruch, Zhitomir region. Gumenyuk now holds the position of head of the migration police department of the GUNP in the Zhytomyr region.

On July 5 this year, employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation detained the deputy head of the department for combating drug trafficking, Alexander Gorbachev, and an operational officer for bribery. They are direct subordinates of the deputy chief, who also appears in StopCor's journalistic investigations. It is noteworthy that the permission for the legal circulation of narcotic drugs, issued for a reward, was signed by the leadership of the GUNP of the Zhytomyr region.

Taking into account all the above facts, the question arises: why does the leadership of the GUNP of the Zhytomyr region, in particular Oleg Trachuk, continue to turn a blind eye to numerous scandals and possible abuses of subordinates and leave them in existing positions, and sometimes even promote them?
