NAPC found UAH 29 million worth of unsubstantiated assets from Verbitsky

The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption identified signs of a criminal corruption offense in the actions of the former Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Dmitry Verbitsky, indicating illegal enrichment of almost 29 million hryvnia.

“The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NACP), during lifestyle monitoring, identified signs of a corruption criminal offense in the actions of the former Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine, indicating his illegal enrichment of almost 29 million UAH,” the report says.

In particular, the NACP established that, on behalf of the employee, persons associated with him acquired the following unjustified assets:

  • Lexus ES 300H car worth more than 960 thousand UAH;
  • Lexus NX 300H car worth more than 480 thousand UAH;
  • a Porsche Macan T worth UAH 3.5 million;
  • house and land in Kyiv worth UAH 16.3 million;
  • house and land in Odessa worth 10 million UAH;

apartment and land plot in Antalya (Türkiye) worth UAH 3.9 million.

At the same time, according to the NACP, the legal sources of origin of the employee’s cash worth more than UAH 2 million, as well as the Tether (USDT) cryptocurrency, have not been established.

The department notes that the materials regarding the former Deputy Prosecutor General have been sent to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine for joining them with the materials of criminal proceedings and conducting a pre-trial investigation.

In May, Schemes journalists found out that Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Dmitry Verbitsky lives in the elite Kiev cottage town of Konik, where his nephew bought a house at a price six times less than the market value.

Verbitsky, answering the question from Schemes, argued that he only knew the price specified in the contract for this property. When asked about the possibility of tax evasion due to the fact that his nephew purchased the property at a price significantly below the market price, Verbitsky defended the deal, pointing to defects in the house and the “need for additional financial investments” in it.

Journalists also found that Verbitsky’s girlfriend received luxury property worth at least UAH 52 million in 2024, without having sufficient official income of her own for this.

On July 1, Prosecutor General Andrei Kostin signed an order for the voluntary dismissal of his deputy Dmitry Verbitsky from the administrative post.

Verbitsky stated that he wrote a letter of resignation in order to avoid a negative impact on the work of the department as a whole. According to the ex-official, this decision is justified by the fact that negative information in the media that concerns him also affects the image of the prosecutor's office as a whole.
