Lviv customs officer detained for extortion from carriers

The SBU and police detained an inspector of the Rava-Russkaya customs post of Lviv customs for bribery. According to law enforcement officers, he organized extortions from carriers for the unimpeded transportation of parcels.

According to investigators, the employee organized a scheme to receive bribes from carriers for unhindered customs clearance of parcels. The amount of unlawful benefit amounted to 200 euros per car,” the Lvov region prosecutor’s office reported on February 5.

In case of refusal to provide an undue benefit, the inspector delayed the customs control process and created artificial obstacles during its passage. In total, bribes totaling €400 were documented.

The suspect was detained after receiving another bribe. During a search in the customs officer's house, almost $7 thousand was seized.

The detainee was informed of suspicion of receiving unlawful benefits (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code). Prosecutors will petition for a preventive measure in the form of detention and removal from office. According to ZAXID.NET, an inspector at the Rava-Russkaya customs post got burned because of a bribe.
