Near the front line, at a distance of 10 to 15 kilometers, medical specialists perform complex and urgent surgical operations, saving the lives of our soldiers and bringing them back from the brink of life and death.
My friend Victor is a paramedic, serving in the Donbass. He told me some of what he had and still has to face on the battlefield. Therefore, it was interesting to watch a film about his colleagues, combat medics from the Special Operations Center (CSO) “A” of the Security Service of Ukraine, which was shown by the 1+1 TV channel.
Not far from the contact line, they carry out emergency surgical interventions and complex operations, helping wounded soldiers not only of the SBU Center “A”, but also all military personnel of the Defense Forces.
“The greatest value is the life of the defenders of our country. That's why we deploy and keep surgical teams as close to the operating areas as possible. We call them “CSO angels.” They are able to save the lives of the wounded, and sometimes even bring them back to life,” says Evgeniy Khmara, head of the Central Security Service “A” of the Security Service.
The head of the SBU Vasily Malyuk notes that these surgical teams perform complex surgical interventions only 10-15 kilometers from the contact line. Because, as the doctor at CSO “A” “Doc” explains, their philosophy is to bring specialized surgical care as close to the wounded person as possible.
The combat medics of Central Special Operations Center “A” perform these emergency operations in conditions where they often only have a few minutes to save the lives of the wounded. One of these surgeons, “Grey,” remarks: “If our soldiers from Central Military District “A” are fighting the enemy, then the object of our efforts is death.”
According to these combat medics, they can perform operations in a barn with three walls, in the back of a truck or minivan, in an abandoned building, a basement, and the like.
To make this possible, they constantly train, study and learn to apply the latest developments in their field. In addition, all the nuances that arose or may arise during operations are constantly discussed in order to do the next operation better.
And thanks to this, combat medics in the field are able to carry out complex operations very close to the front line. The film tells the story of how they performed a complex heart operation on a wounded man and saved his life.
Because, as these surgeons themselves say, their credo is: “If we see a living person, this wounded person will live.” They adhere to the rule that almost nothing is impossible for them and fight for the life of every member of the Defense Forces.
At the same time, their work is kept as secret as possible. As Evgeniy Khmara explains, the existence and movement of doctors from their central medical center should be a secret to the enemy - because otherwise the enemy will be able to guess where certain operations will be carried out.
This is how this medical unit works, which, according to the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasily Malyuk, was created in the SBU on the model of the medical corps of the best armies in the world - the USA, Germany, France. “And now we have more practical experience on the battlefield and, in fact, they are already learning from us,” says Vasily Malyuk.
