Fraudster tried to deceive soldier's widow, demanding $10 thousand

A case of fraud was discovered in Kharkov, where a deceiver, posing as an SBU officer, defrauded money from the widow of a deceased Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier. Under the pretext of returning her husband from captivity, he demanded $10 thousand, as reported by the SBU press center.

A resident of Kharkov “played” on the fact that the serviceman died in the so-called gray zone, which is why his body has not yet been handed over to his relatives. Having learned about this, the fraudster began posing as an SBU officer and convincing the woman that her husband was allegedly being held captive by the Russian occupiers. For a monetary “reward,” the defendant promised her his assistance in “returning” the military man home.

The attacker “guaranteed” to his victim that he would add the name of the supposedly captured warrior to the list for a “priority” exchange.

SBU officers documented the criminal actions of the defendant and detained him while receiving money from the victim. During the search, a mobile phone containing evidence of illegal activities was confiscated from the detainee.

Now he has been informed of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). It is planned to select a preventive measure - detention. The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The perpetrator faces up to 8 years in prison.
