NABU conducted searches of the driver, mother and brother of the deputy head of the presidential office Andrei Smirnov. Investigative actions were carried out as part of a case registered after the publication of a journalistic investigation in the winter of this year.
We are talking about a journalistic investigation that discovered that the brother of the deputy head of the OPU, Igor Smirnov, purchased apartments in an elite new building in Lviv, a plot of land in the Carpathians, a parking space in Kiev, as well as a Volkswagen Multivan, a BMW and a motorcycle. The apartments, plot and parking space, according to official documents, were purchased at a several-fold discount. And according to his brother, he borrowed the money.
But the information that Bankovaya and Smirnov himself are trying to do everything to transfer the case to the State Bureau of Investigation or another law enforcement agency controlled by the authorities was not confirmed by the NABU interlocutor. According to him, “there were no threats to withdraw the case, I don’t know about it.”
