NABU is conducting an inspection of the lifestyle of Energoatom President Petr Kotin in connection with the acquisition of an estate worth almost 7 million hryvnia by his mother-in-law

The initiation of the audit was based on an appeal from people’s deputies, who provided links to the investigation of the “Scheme”.

NAZK checks the way of life of the President of Energoatom, whose mother-in-law bought the cards for about 7 million UAH

The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption has begun a procedure for monitoring the lifestyle of the president of the state enterprise NAEC Energoatom, Petr Kotin, whose mother-in-law had an estate near Kiev registered in 2023 for almost 7 million UAH.

This is stated in a letter published by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

The audit was launched on the basis of a request from people’s deputies, who, in turn, referred to the investigation of the “Schemes” project.

“The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption monitors the lifestyle of the declaring subjects based on information received from individuals and legal entities, as well as from the media and other open sources of information, which contains information about the discrepancy between the standard of living of the declaring subjects and their declared property and income,” – the letter says.

The lifestyle monitoring procedure provides for the confiscation of acquired assets if their value does not correspond to official income.

What preceded

Journalists of the “Schemes” project from Radio Liberty found out that Kotin’s 70-year-old mother-in-law purchased real estate and land near Kiev during a full-scale war, officially without any income of her own. In the summer of 2023, she became the owner of a two-story house with an area of almost 300 square meters. In total, the house and land cost the woman almost 7 million UAH.

This is not the only investigation by journalists regarding Kotin. Previously, they wrote that Kotin’s son ran a company that was suspected of embezzling funds from this state-owned enterprise. At the end of December, according to Schemes, Petr Kotin’s contract with Energoatom was expiring. But it may be extended. In addition, Energoatom should be reformed into a joint-stock company, and Kotin can lead it - the decision on this depends on the government.
