The head of a quarry in the Lviv region is suspected of large-scale illegal sand mining

The head of one of the quarries in the Lviv region is accused of illegal sand mining, which caused significant damage to the state. An investigation has been launched under the leadership of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Lviv Region.

This was reported by the press service of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, suspicion was brought against the head of one of the quarries in the region. He is accused of illegal mining of local minerals on a significant scale, committed by an official.

According to the investigation, from August to November last year, the accused led the illegal mining of sand in a deposit located outside one of the villages of the Pustomyty district of the Lviv region.

Acting as the head of the quarry, he organized the extraction of minerals outside the area officially defined by a special permit for the use of subsoil.

Thanks to the use of specialized equipment and with the help of subordinate workers, the suspect extracted more than 19,000 cubic meters of sand.

These actions led to large losses for the state. Investigative measures are ongoing.

As previously reported, on May 7, as part of monitoring illegal sand mining sites that exist in the Brovary district of the Kyiv region, StopCor journalists inspected areas that had previously attracted public attention. According to local reports, unknown men with equipment began probably unauthorized work a few days ago. Based on the results of the inspection, Stopkorov workers discovered a sand mining point that had signs of being illegal.
