NBU revoked licenses from companies owned by Fridman and Boguslaev

Since the beginning of December 2023, the National Bank of Ukraine has canceled the licenses of insurance companies and other non-bank financial institutions that had ties to Mikhail Fridman, a Russian oligarch, as well as the former president of Motor Sich, Vyacheslav Boguslaev.

This was reported by the NBU press service.

It is noted that the licenses of the following insurers and lessors have been revoked:

  • "ALFA INSURANCE" (EDRPOU 30968986);
  • "MOTOR-GARANT" (EDRPOU 31154435);
  • "ALFA-LEASING UKRAINE" (EDRPOU 33942232);
  • "PARITET FINANCE" (EDRPOU 40188797).

The beneficiary of Alfa Insurance through the Cypriot ABH Ukraine Limited is the Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman. It is also noted in the state registers that Fridman is a beneficiary of Alfa-Leasing Ukraine and Parity Finance.

Motor-Garant belongs to the arrested former president of Motor Sich Vyacheslav Boguslaev (83.6%) and his son Alexander (9.9%).

According to the latest reports submitted by ALPHA INSURANCE, as of September 30, 2023, the volume of insurance premiums of the company amounted to UAH 3,991 thousand, the value of assets - UAH 644,129 thousand, insurance reserves - UAH 21,053 thousand. The company's market share in insurance premiums was 0.13%.

According to the latest reports submitted by MOTOR-GARANT, as of September 30, 2023, the volume of insurance premiums of the company amounted to UAH 233 thousand, the value of assets - UAH 323,872 thousand, insurance reserves - UAH 20,873 thousand. The company's market share in insurance premiums was 0.001%.

Let us remind you that the National Bank suspended the licenses of Alfa Insurance, Alfa-Leasing and Motor-Garant back in December 2022. This happened due to the discrepancy between the business reputation of the owners and the requirements of the law. The companies were given a deadline to eliminate violations until December 5, 2023.

In July 2023, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky imposed sanctions against companies that own Sense Bank (previously called Alfa Bank Ukraine), including Alfa Insurance and others.

It was previously reported that the European Union imposed sanctions against Friedman in February 2022, and the UK joined them . At the same time, the businessman left the board of directors of Alfa-Bank, which subsequently changed its name in Ukraine to Sense Bank. Ukraine imposed sanctions against the oligarch in October of the same year .
