The NBU allowed the purchase of non-cash currency up to 200 thousand UAH

The NBU allowed Ukrainians to purchase non-cash currency in the amount of up to 200 thousand hryvnia and instantly withdraw currency from their account in the amount of up to 50 thousand hryvnia. How currency exchange rules will change in Ukraine starting tomorrow. From August 29, the National Bank softens the rule for the population on non-cash purchases of foreign currency.

This is stated in the official statement of the regulator and its new resolution No. 104.

The new document provides for two changes:

• Previously, an individual could buy foreign currency in one bank in non-cash form for no more than 100 thousand UAH per month with mandatory placement on deposit (without the right of early withdrawal) for at least 3 months. Starting tomorrow, according to this rule, it will be possible to take dollars/euro for 200 thousand hryvnia. This format of foreign currency purchases appeared back in July 2022, and now the NBU has increased the limit for it.

• People will be allowed to buy foreign currency on current accounts in an amount of up to 50 thousand UAH/month non-cash, without explanation and for any purpose. in one bank at its current rate. This is a new format, and before the population did not have such an opportunity. Non-cash purchases were carried out only with the obligatory placement of dollars/euro on a deposit of at least 3 months, and no one received them immediately (they sat in accounts). Now it will be possible to immediately withdraw the equivalent of 50 thousand UAH/month from the current account. in foreign currency, and not wait for anything.

“We will gradually increase the limit of 50 thousand UAH - to 100 thousand UAH and beyond. Perhaps the first increase in the limit will occur before the end of 2023, although much will depend on stability in the market and the situation at the front,” a source at the National Bank told Strana.

In an official statement, the NBU explains the easing of foreign exchange rules by the desire to reduce the difference between different cash exchange rates, which Strana wrote about in recent weeks. At the end of August, the average cash exchange rate for selling dollars on the black market reached 38.6 UAH/$ (today it has moved to 38.30 UAH/$), and at bank cash desks it was generally 39 UAH/$. By the way, some banks keep the price tag of 39.0 UAH/$ even today - this is the maximum selling price and sets it to FUIB. And the average price of a dollar on sale from banks is now within the range of 38.10-38.80 UAH/$, on purchase – 36.6-38.0 UAH/$.
