Vitali Klitschko's new “feeder”? A tunnel from Obolon to Troieschyna will be built in Kyiv

They are already designing a route that should start from the Bolshaya Koltseva in Obolon through the Dnieper and emerge at the Troyeshchina residential area

At the end of 2023, the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko said that the tunnel is a project of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development, which should build it.

“When the state builds it, the traffic load on the capital’s roads and the amount of transit transport passing through the city center and bridges across the Dnieper will decrease,” Vitaliy Klitschko explained in an interview.

“The tunnel will also have a positive impact on the environment in the city, reducing gas pollution.”

According to the publication You Kyiv, it all started with the project of the new Great Ring Road. In total, 78 overpasses, 2 bridges and tunnels were to be built around the capital. In 2012, at a meeting of the commission, the construction of 5 road tunnels in Kyiv was reviewed and approved, namely: the tunnel between “Levoberezhnaya” and Victory Square; tunnel between the street Frunze and st. Chernovol; via the Dnieper; the southern tunnel crossing across the Dnieper and the road tunnel from the Pridneprovskoe highway to the street. Kikvide.

The idea was then valued at 1.4-1.5 billion euros.

Unfortunately, the project was frozen that same year. Only in 2018 was it revived: the Chinese corporation CRBC then helped build the ring road bypassing Kyiv, but for political reasons the cooperation ceased.

The mayor of Kyiv emphasized that the construction of three new sections of the Great Ring Road, which the city has been carrying out since 2016, is very important, since in this way the road is connected to the future tunnel. This will allow transit traffic to be detoured to relieve congestion on Zabolotny Street, Nauki Avenue, South Bridge, Teligi Street and Bolshaya Okruzhnaya Road.
