He deceived a woman out of almost a million hryvnia: a fraudster was convicted in Khmelnitsky

In the Khmelnytsky region, a swindler who swindled almost a million hryvnia from a Khmelnytsky resident was convicted.

This was reported by the press service of the Khmelnitsky Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The court found a 39-year-old resident of the city of Sumy guilty of fraud committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons on an especially large scale. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison with confiscation of all property except housing.

“In February 2019, an unknown man called a Khmelnytsky woman, introduced himself as her son and said that he had caused an accident. He said that in order to avoid criminal liability, you need to pay a considerable amount. Soon the accused came to the victim’s apartment and introduced himself as an employee of the prosecutor’s office2. US dollars and 6 thousand euros, which at that time amounted to almost a million hryvnia,” the report says.

Law enforcement officers add that it later turned out that there was no accident, and in fact the woman became a victim of scammers.
