Law enforcement officials exposed a group that defrauded Ukrainians out of 45 million hryvnia. Fraudsters stole money that volunteers and military personnel gave them to purchase UAVs.
This was reported on the official Telegram channel of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine on Thursday, February 15. The attackers offered drones at a price 20-30% below the market price.
The scammers asked to immediately transfer payment for the goods in full to the accounts of an individual entrepreneur. After receiving the funds and the expiration of a certain period, the suspects informed buyers that the drones were allegedly seized at the border or talked about delays at carriers.
After some time, they made excuses for the lack of paid goods by saying that the supplier was supposedly a fraudster.
“The victims of the scheme were mainly volunteers, military personnel and representatives of public and charitable organizations who wanted to purchase quadcopters and transfer them to various units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They suffered more than UAH 45 million in damage,” the statement said.
The organizer of the scheme and another suspect were given preventive measures - detention, and the issue of putting another suspect on the wanted list is being decided.
