An entrepreneur in Kyiv “laundered” 3.5 million hryvnia for bridge repairs

In Kyiv, a contractor faces up to 12 years in prison for inflating the cost of work by more than 3.5 million hryvnia.

In Kyiv, it became known that the director of a contracting organization engaged in bridge repairs was suspected of laundering more than 3.5 million hryvnia. This entrepreneur entered into an agreement for bridge repairs with the city utility company Kievavtodorgorod.

This event was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General on Wednesday, April 3. However, according to the investigation, he entered false information into the work completion certificates, adding materials not provided for in the contract. This led to an unreasonable increase in the cost of the project.

In addition, additional work was performed that was not included in the estimate and contract, which also entailed additional costs.

Experts confirmed damage to the capital’s community amounting to more than 3.5 million hryvnia. The suspected manager was also notified of suspicion of official negligence, which led to serious consequences.

As part of the same criminal proceedings, the district prosecutor's office reported the suspicion to the chief engineer of the utility company.

The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the head of the contracting organization is being decided. If found guilty, he faces up to 12 years in prison.
