On the night of December 2, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant faced a complete power outage due to the station being de-energized. The previous event was the breakdown of the Zaporozhye Thermal Power Plant - Ferrosplavnaya power transmission line with a voltage of 330 kV in the evening of December 1, through which the nuclear power plant received power, and then at night the last line Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant - Dneprovskaya with a voltage of 750 kV was disconnected.
The Ministry of Energy reports this.
“Due to the complete blackout, Zaporizhia NPP switched to powering its own needs from diesel generators. All 20 diesel generators turned on automatically, 8 of which were later left in operation,” the report says.
According to the report, the greatest security threat during the blackout exists at power unit 4 and is associated with the fact that the occupiers operated it with significant violations and kept it in a hot state.
The Ministry of Energy emphasized that shutting down the main circulation pumps that provide cooling of the reactor core entails the transition of the reactor plant to natural circulation mode. This mode turns out to be difficult for a reactor installation, its duration is limited by design parameters, and can lead to failure of the main equipment of the power unit.
To avoid negative consequences, the power unit requires immediate transfer to cold shutdown mode.
At 7 a.m., Ukrainian specialists resumed communication with the Ukrainian energy system and resumed operation of the 750 kV power transmission line.
This is already the eighth blackout that occurred at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and could lead to a nuclear disaster.
Let us note that due to the actions of the occupiers on November 26, the Zaporozhye NPP was on the verge of another blackout all day long.
The situation at the occupied Zaporizhia NPP is getting worse every day. The invaders do not take the necessary measures necessary for the safe operation of the nuclear facility.
