In Kyiv, a court found a previously convicted man guilty of fraud who had deceived more than 30 citizens. While in a pre-trial detention center, the attacker “collected” money to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine during August – November 2022.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office. The accused was sentenced to 6 years and 2 months in prison.
According to law enforcement officers, the attacker was in the Kiev pre-trial detention center for committing property crimes in August - November 2022. While in the cell, he was able to get a mobile phone and a SIM card - with their help, he created an account on a social network.
“Under the guise of a volunteer, the man posted an advertisement about collecting funds supposedly for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, indicating the numbers of bank cards that he used until he was placed in a pre-trial detention center. The attacker did not transfer the funds received from benefactors to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but appropriated them. In this way, he deceived more than 30 citizens,” the prosecutor’s office said.
The Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv found the man guilty of fraud and sentenced him to 6 years and 2 months in prison. He is currently serving his sentence in a correctional colony in the Cherkasy region.
