The SBU revealed a scheme for preparing air attacks by Russians on the Cherkasy region

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced the discovery of a Russian military intelligence agent who was planning air attacks on the Cherkasy region.

The press service of the department reports this.

The attacker’s main goal was to identify railway junctions involved in transporting military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the front, as well as providing the exact coordinates of warehouses with weapons and ammunition of the Ukrainian troops. The occupiers were also interested in the locations of military hospitals where wounded soldiers of the Defense Forces are being treated, in order to plan missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian targets.

SBU officers managed to locate and detain the agent in his own home. The attacker turned out to be a 45-year-old native of the Lugansk region, who in April 2022 moved to the Cherkasy region as an immigrant from eastern Ukraine. He was recruited by a representative of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

For communication, the agent used anonymous chats in the messenger, and transmitted intelligence in the form of photographs of Ukrainian objects with descriptions, geolocations and location references.

Currently, the attacker has been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law), he faces life imprisonment. Complex measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Cherkasy region according to the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
