In the spotlight

The SBU caught a bribe-taker from the Antimonopoly Committee who was collecting tribute from entrepreneurs.

SBU officers detained an official of the research and investigation department in the Northern Interregional Territorial Branch of the Antimonopoly Committee (AMCU) - he ignored the violation of antimonopoly legislation for bribes and did not apply administrative sanctions against them.

In particular, it is reported that a government employee demanded a bribe of $8 thousand from a local company specializing in the wholesale trade of chemicals and cleaning equipment. Instead, he promised to resolve the issue of avoiding fines for violations identified during an inspection of the enterprise.

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine documented the fact that the official received the first part of the illegal benefit and detained him “on the spot” while receiving the next “tranche.” Based on the collected evidence, the detainee was declared a suspect under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of unlawful benefits by an official). He is currently in custody.

The perpetrator faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
