The SBU detained an FSB mole who was trying to get a job in the police

The SBU detained an FSB mole who was trying to get a job in the police in order to spy on the Offensive Guard and units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Cyber specialists from the Security Service thwarted the FSB’s attempt to “introduce” its agent into the Ukrainian Defense Forces. As a result of a special operation in the Kiev region, a traitor was detained who, at the direction of the occupiers, tried to get a job in the National Police. If successfully enlisted in the service, he was supposed to collect information about law enforcement units, primarily those included in the “Offensive Guard” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. In addition, he hoped to receive more “opportunities” for collecting data on the personnel and movement of military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine reports .

The Russians needed intelligence information to prepare air attacks on Defense Forces targets and plan combat operations on the front line. According to the investigation, in order to verify the agent’s ability to complete the mole’s task, the FSB gave him a “test” task. In particular, the occupiers instructed their henchman to scout out the locations of military airfields and hospitals, as well as defense factories, in the Kiev region.

At the same time, he had to collect as much information as possible for the FSB about one of the mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. To do this, the traitor secretly used a local resident from whom he rented an apartment. It was established that her son fought as part of a brigade and died on the front line.

SBU officers documented the Russian agent “step by step” and at the final stage of the special operation detained him in his own home. By that time, he had already submitted documents as a candidate to join the ranks of the National Police.

According to the investigation, the detainee was a resident of the Brovary district, who at the end of 2023 was remotely recruited by a career FSB officer. His identity has already been established by the Security Service. He came to the attention of the aggressor because of the pro-Kremlin comments that he left in the chats of Russian telegram channels.

To carry out hostile instructions, the traitor traveled around the area, where he recorded the coordinates of the necessary objects, and then transferred the geolocations to the Russian curator. For cooperation with the occupiers, the defendant received a monetary reward from them on his own bank card. During the search, a mobile phone with evidence of his correspondence with the FSB was confiscated from the detainee.

Security Service investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state betrayal committed under martial law). The attacker is in custody. He faces life imprisonment. The special operation was carried out under the procedural leadership of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
