The SBU detained the head of the power unit of an organized crime group in Transcarpathia, which was coordinated by the ex-people's deputy of the region

The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police, eliminated a criminal group that was terrorizing the residents of Transcarpathia.

In Mukachevo, the head of the gang’s power unit was detained, which was coordinated by a former deputy from the Party of Regions, who now heads one of the regional councils of the region. This was reported by the press service of the SBU.

According to the case materials, the group specialized in intimidating the political competitors of the ex-people's deputy. In particular, they tried to intimidate one of the deputies of the Transcarpathian Regional Council by organizing the bombing of his home and repeated arson of his property.

The detainee was reported on suspicion under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including for intentional destruction or damage to property. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

Investigative actions are ongoing to identify all persons involved in the activities of the criminal group. The operation was carried out jointly with the National Police under the leadership of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office.
