The former head of the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, filed a memorandum in the court asking that the US Department of Justice requests be withdrawn because they were “unfounded and excessive.”
Sam Bankman-Fried argues that most of the issues raised by the government cannot be adequately addressed at this stage.
Additionally, the memorandum states that the requests "are intended to admit irrelevant and prejudicial evidence relating to conduct that is no longer charged or has never been charged, to undermine any potential defense, and to admit broad categories of hearsay and other inappropriate evidence."
The document also argues that the prosecutor's requests are "not supported by law and are unworkable" in practice and therefore should not be granted.
Meanwhile, Bankman-Fried's lawyers are pushing for the former FTX chief to be temporarily released, saying the conditions provided by authorities are insufficient to prepare for an October trial.
