On April 28, 2024, another independent miner with an equipment hashrate of 12 PH/s mined Bitcoin block number 841,286 (282 solo block). He received a reward of 3,125 BTC (about $195,000 at the time of publication). This was reported by CKPool pool analyst Con Kolivas.
“The miner either recently switched from pool mining after the halving (likely due to no longer being able to recoup his electricity costs) to a solo block, or periodically rented large amounts on his own,” Kolyvas wrote.
Under the analyst’s post, users expressed doubts about how profitable mining is. One community member wrote:
“That’s about $250,000 a month in electricity costs and $2 million in minimum start-up costs. For $235,000? The more I do it, the less sense it makes.”
