The US is likely to include ATACMS long-range missiles in a future military aid package to Ukraine.
The publication notes that the administration of US President Joe Biden is likely to provide Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles to help fight the Russian invasion.
One of the officials noted that ATACMS is “approaching” (to Ukraine - ed.). However, the official added that plans to provide military assistance may change before the official announcement.
Another official said a decision to provide the missiles was already "on the table" and ATACMS would likely be included in a future security aid package.
He added that a final decision has not yet been made. According to him, it could be months before Ukraine receives the missiles.
On Wednesday, September 6, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, while in Kyiv, announced the allocation of more than a billion dollars to help Ukraine.
Blinken, during a meeting with Dmytro Kuleba, noted that Ukraine had made “significant progress” during the counteroffensive.
The United States also officially announced a new package of military assistance for Ukraine. In particular, the American side will transfer shells with depleted uranium.
The new $175 million military aid package includes: additional air defense equipment; artillery ammunition; anti-tank weapons and other equipment.
Blinken last visited Kyiv on September 8, 2022. Then he met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, giving him a message from his American colleague Joe Biden. Blinken also visited Irpen and met in the hospital with children who suffered from Russian aggression.
This is the third visit of the head of the US State Department to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion. On April 25, 2022, Blinken and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also met with Vladimir Zelensky in Kyiv.
