Tesla Optimus is a new humanoid robot from Tesla, which differs from previous versions in a lighter and faster design.
According to the video presentation, the robot is approximately 10 kg lighter than Optimus Gen 1.
The design of its legs follows the human anatomy, improving the machine's balance and body control. To demonstrate its capabilities, the robot did several squats.
The bot has tactile sensors on its fingers, with which it can manipulate fragile objects like a chicken egg. Optimus also has a 2.3 kW battery located in the thoracic torso, which can last a full day.
The robot's central computer processes visual data from several sensors and is equipped with a navigation system based on neural networks.
Libraries of “standards of natural movement” recorded using real people as examples are loaded into its memory. The bot can recognize its environment and locate its limbs in space.
So far, Optimus can only walk forward, independently calibrate body parts and move them in 11 axes, and also take different poses - for example, standing on one leg.
Previous Tesla bots were far from ideal, the first of them appeared in 2022 and could barely move.
However, by May 2023, a new generation of robots had already appeared that moved freely and interacted with objects.
At the Tesla AI Day 2022 , company CEO Elon Musk described the project as “an extremely capable device” with universal functionality. The humanoid machines will go on sale between 2025 and 2027 and will cost “much less than a car.”
Recall that in October Nvidia introduced the AI tool Eureka, which significantly improves the “dexterity” of robots. The neural network teaches mechanisms complex skills like rotating a handle.
