He demanded a 500 thousand UAH bribe for asphalting a road: an official will be tried in Kyiv

An official of a utility company accused of bribery will be tried in Kyiv. The man demanded 500 thousand hryvnia from a city resident for asphalting the road.

This was reported by the press service of the capital police. The perpetrator faces up to ten years in prison.

According to law enforcement officers, in November 2023, law enforcement officers exposed the deputy head of a utility company responsible for the repair and maintenance of highways in one of the districts of Kyiv for taking bribes.

“During the pre-trial investigation, investigators found out that a Kiev woman approached the official with a request to asphalt the access road to her house.

The official assured the woman that the service would cost 500 thousand hryvnia, and emphasized that when concluding an agreement with a utility company, the amount for the work would increase significantly. The utility worker insisted on providing the woman with the above service on a non-contractual basis and asked her for the entire amount in cash,” the press service said.

The attacker was detained while receiving the second tranche of “reward” in the amount of 425,000 hryvnia. Criminal proceedings were opened on the fact of bribery, and the detainee was informed of suspicion. At present, the pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to the court for consideration of the case on the merits.
