Three Russian military personnel were charged with shooting people during the occupation of the Kiev region

During February and March 2022, the occupiers on the Kyiv-Zhitomir highway systematically shot civilian cars, their drivers and passengers, and pedestrians who were trying to escape the war.

This is reported by the website of the National Police of Ukraine

During this time, they seriously wounded 6 Ukrainians and killed 26, and burned their bodies along with the shot cars to hide the traces of their crimes.

The occupiers fled under the pressure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and the burnt remains of the bodies of their victims remained lying on the road. However, National Police investigators managed to establish the identities of the victims, restore the chronology of events and identify their killers - Buryats from the 2nd battalion of the 5th Separate Guards Tank Tatsin Red Banner Order of Suvorov Brigade of the 36th Combined Arms Army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces.

The commander, who gave criminal orders to kill Ukrainians on the Zhytomyr highway, and his two subordinates - a senior lieutenant and a corporal, who carried them out, under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General, were informed of suspicion of committing war crimes, namely, carrying out and implementing an order to commit a brutal treatment of the civilian population by prior conspiracy combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Watch the video about the difficult path from identifying victims and suspects to reporting suspicion that the police took.
