This year, aid to Ukraine in the fall was reduced by 90% compared to last year.

Aid to Ukraine fell by almost 90% in the August-October 2023 period compared to the same period last year. The total amount of assistance amounted to 2.11 billion euros, which is the lowest level since the beginning of January 2022.

This was stated in a report by the Kiel Institute of World Economics.

“Between August and October 2023, the volume of new aid allocated fell sharply: the total value of new packages was just 2.11 billion euros, down 87 percent compared to the same period in 2022 and the lowest amount since January 2022. Of the 42 donors tracked, only 20 have provided new aid packages in the last 3 months, the smallest share of active donors since the war began. There were also few new commitments from the European Union and the United States,” the report said.

“Our figures confirm the impression that donors have become more hesitant in recent months. Ukraine is increasingly dependent on a few major donors that continue to provide significant support, such as Germany, the United States or the Nordic countries. Given the uncertainty over further US aid, Ukraine can only hope that the EU will finally accept its long-announced €50 billion support package. A further delay will clearly strengthen Putin’s position,” said Christoph Trebesch, director of the Kiel Institute research center, commenting on the situation.
