A powerful earthquake occurred in California during a storm: the consequences of bad weather

A new earthquake has occurred in the United States. In southern California, Tropical Storm Hillary was active in Ventura County, during which the tremors began. Currently, no weather damage is being recorded, but rescuers are working on high alert.

The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.1. There is no damage. The epicenter of the tremors was discovered in Ventura County, north of Los Angeles.

“There are no reports of damage yet, but the earthquake was strongly felt in Ventura County,” Ventura County officials said in a statement.

Tsunamis often occur after earthquakes. But the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports that in this case it will not occur after the earthquake.

Earthquakes in the USA

Hundreds of earthquakes occur every day. The Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964 is the largest earthquake in the United States and the second most powerful on record. It had a magnitude of 9.2. Then 131 people died, of which 9 were killed during tremors, and the rest from the tsunami.

It is also noted that the 1906 San Francisco earthquake had a magnitude of 7.9 on the Kanamori scale. He killed between 700 and over 3,000 people. The city was completely destroyed.
