For numerous months, the Kiev City State Administration had information about the threat of a possible accident in the tunnel between the Lybidska and Demeevskaya metro stations.

“The hydrology of the Sovka River at the RiverDel construction site has been disrupted. The collector on Izyumskaya is clearly broken. For a long time. Water from the river filled the aquifers of the distillation tunnel east of the Kievguma building along the power lines,” writes Kucherenko, citing specialists.
According to experts, metro workers understood that sooner or later an accident of this type could happen. Moreover, the situation began to deteriorate several months ago.

According to the director of the department of transport infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration Ruslan Kandibor , metro workers discovered water and sand in the tunnel between the Lybidskaya and Demeevskaya stations at the end of November.
Gradually the flow of water and sand increased. In this regard, the metro turned to the Kiev State Research Institute of Building Structures, which issued an opinion on the possible threat of destruction of the tunnel.
After this, according to city authorities, they decided to suspend traffic at several metro stations.
